¨Hotels.com, there's an amazing domain name like that, with all the geniuses and all the masters degrees and all the professionals at Hyatt, Hilton, Marriott, Holiday In, Westin, every single company you can think of, no one figured out how many leads will I get if I had a domain like hotels.com?

Now they're forced to pay hotels.com for the rest of their lives tens of millions of dollars.

And the reason I bring this up is that some of the keywords used, stated or the panel stated were that big companies are prudent spenders.

Now, please explain to me, how paying rent for something that they could have owned would be prudent? (applause)

Response from a panelist: It didn't fit in the budget that year. That's true. It didn't fit in the budget that year. And it's not a good answer, but ...

  • Reputation: Will it grow your reputation? Reputation brings more customers, better customers.
  • New Business: How much leads, new business, could this additional traffic source brings?
  • ​New Territory: New customer profiles, new geographic area or a new higher level of products and services. 
  • Cost: how many times the cost will it generate over the years?
    10X, 30X ... 100X? At 50X your acquisition cost is 2% of Revenu! at 200X it goes down to 0.5%!
  • Real Opportunity Cost: In addition, if it can be paid on a monthly basis, after how many months will it self-finance with the added revenue?
    What is your real opportunity cost then?

  • To Hiring a Sales Rep: To get more leads. How much leads can they generate? What is their salary cost?
